Before his admission as an advocate, Toka Machabaphala spent three (3) years (2007 – 2009) at a leading international commercial law firm based in Sandton, Johannesburg (Faksten Martineau DuMoulin LLP, previously Bell Dewar Inc) where he began his legal career and completed his articles. During this time his passion for law and community development grew into a reality.

In the period of March 2010 – December 201 1, Toka participated in research work with Harvard Law School wherein he assisted in tracing apartheid victims in South Africa for class action reparations claims against USA multi-national corporates.

During 201 5, he was part of the legal team that advised the then National Lotteries Board (NLB) on the termination of the Gidani Participants Trust, transfer, and distribution of the 2 billion rands funds to the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) and other beneficiaries; and further advised on the new corporate governance structure of the Participants Trust.
